  • Who is Prosearch? Sudden letter re Santander account.

Not sure if this the right section so mods, move if necessary.

A letter landed on the mat this morning from Prosearch. It also carried the red/white Santander legend on the opposite side of their header. I've never heard of them before and a quick Google search reveals some unsavoury tactics.

A bit of background is necessary, here. My mother died in 2005. I was the only child and sole Executor and it took over a year to wrap up her estate. Even after it was thought all sorted, monies were still being uncovered by the previous solicitor and forwarded onto my new one. One of these late, unexpected amounts came from Alliance & Leicester. Now, this letter arrives saying there's a (two figure) dividend remaining unclaimed.

What I'm concerned about is that these rogues, Prosearch, state that 'the records held by Santander show that Alliance & Leicester dividends have been sent to you and remain uncashed'. That last part sounds a tad oxymoronic for how can dividends sent to me and remain uncashed?? But if there is/was anything remaining unclaimed, why has it taken this length of time to surface?

I'm not going to reply to Prosearch (they have slyly stipulated a 5-week window until offer is rescinded) but is it worth me writing to Santander to find out what is going on? Or should I just leave it?

Prosearch is a scam, hidden fees, insurance etc.

Certainly don's deal with these scavengers and write to Santander.

Alternatively send satan's bank a subject access request for all the personal data it holds on you.

That's an idea: I'll SAR them. My first lawyer left a lot of things unresolved (it was one of the reasons I parted company with him) and I'd hate to think there are accounts still sitting somewhere, albeit dormant.

          Just a thought.
To SAR, doesn't the data subject have to be a living person?

Yes, I think so, but I'd like know what they hold on me in relation to my mum. Unless I dispense with the SAR and just ask them by letter.

I've never had a problem (yet) approaching banks as an executor with appropriate proof.

Well, Santander responded and, as I thought, they say they can't find anything pertaining to mum's estate. They've asked for some more pertinent info but my hunch is that all the old Alliance & Leicester accounts held by mum were closed well before Santander took over A&L. If this is indeed the case, why is Prosearch saying that a dividend is due? Is this not false representation?

The Prosearch letter has really, really annoyed me and I'd like to rap their knuckles. FCA approach or Ombudsman?
