  • NHS, no one will do dressings

As those of you who read this forum regularly I am the carer for my wife. Some weeks ago she got septic boils on her back. A nasty smelly messy affair. They looked rather like a scene from a horror movie. We called the emergency GP and she wAs, admitted hospital.
On discharge the wounds have not healed and have not responded well to the antibiotics. A recent change of treatment and a visit to the tissue viability clinic has helped but the wound, which has a covering of slough, needs dressings every day. We have just been informed by the GP practice that the nurse there can no longer. Do the dressing as it it a complex wound which takes more than ten minutes. (Not necessarily true) ,the district nurse won't do it as my wife is getting better and is no longer housebound. We have been advised that she will need to go A&E every day for the dressing or change GP. Now where do we go.

My first step would be to have a word with the practice manager.

If you get no joy take it further info HERE

Had a word with the practice manager . She tells us that the practice has opted out of complex wouds, which according to the practice manager takes longer than ten minutes . How ever the tissue viability clinic define a complex wound as needing more than thirty minutes. The district nurses do t want to dress the wound as my wife is not housebound.
