  • P&O cruises and holiday insurance

    Hi
Anyone have any advise. In November I booked a Caribbean cruise for New year on their saver fare and 5 days later out of the blue was called to hospital to be told I had pre cancerous cells leading to endrometrial cancer. Told |I needed a hysterectomy to remove pre cancerous cells. No problems we thought ask for a cruise transfer to after the operation. P&O said No way a saver fare means NO refund, NO transfer, No name changes. Checked annual insurance and found it was europe only. No claim possible even through we had not even left the UK!. Minus £3,000 later, cancer free, operation a success I am very angry. SAVER BEWARE not SAVER FARE. Avoid P&O as a company.

    Terms & Conditions

Saver Fares require a 100% deposit at the time of booking and are subject to a 100% cancellation fee. No amendments are permitted once booked; any amendment will be treated as a cancellation. Bookings are made at the relevant cabin type and a cabin number is allocated by P&O Cruises prior to departure. Dinner seating as allocated on board. Shuttle buses in ports are an additional cost. Saver Fares apply to new bookings only. These terms and conditions vary, where relevant, the applicable booking conditions which are otherwise unchanged.

Going off that they are correct in what has been said to you and it is your insurance that should have covered your loss, I would just check with them you have no claim as you had not actually set sail, but tbh I doubt they would oblige.

      Hi and welcome.
Can you post up a copy of your annual policy, or point to where the wording can be found on the internet?

Where is the starting point of your Caribbean cruise ?

Des all P&O cruises state starting point Southampton in the brochure, you then pick one of several airports to fly from or actually sail form Southampton on a round trip.
I think if cruising was not included or added on as an extension to the yearly policy the insurer wont pay out. I may be wrong but we are cruising with P&O next month and only around the UK, but I still had to take out 'cruise insurance' as every quote I got had to have the fact we were cruising in the info.
I hope I am wrong and the deposit or some of it can be reclaimed, but insurance cos are the worlds worst for borderline cases and paying out.

I noted starting point after posting (too bloody quick again!)

No harm in scrutinizing policy wording ....... mistakes do occur and policies don't always say what the claims departments like to think. There's always a chance ...........
