Much hyped but very disappointing consultation on rule changes for the Claims Management sector.
Most of the proposed changes are very minor. For example changing references to ''Financial Services Authority'' to ''Financial Conduct Authority'' and ''Grammatical corrections'' to existing rules.
In fact the real purpose of the consultation (buried at paragraph 28) is not to make desperately needed new and tougher rules but to reduce the existing ones:
''The CMR Unit is subject to the current governmental policy of reducing regulation. Changes to the rules are subject to clearances from committees, and are potentially subject to reviews, the ‘one-in-two-out’ requirement for introducing new burdens and sun-setting clauses. Policy changes are carried out against a backdrop of the existing requirement for the MoJ to spend 23% less by 2014/15 and a three year moratorium on new regulation for micro businesses. The CMR Unit, like all regulators, is required to act proportionally.''
Nonetheless Beagles will be responding and we'd welcome any suggestions.
