    Re: Hillsborough inquest

Not trying to poke this hornets nest again….but…..I do realise many of the police constables were ill informed and poorly instructed -e.g. those outside the gates who would not allow the fire brigade and ambulances through but we have all seen the footage showing other fans trying to help their fellows while some police officers stood in the middle of the crowd doing nothing. Many officers were doing all they could to help but not all. Many of the relatives also told how they were treated like dirt by individual officers. The sickening thing was, constables on duty that day have claimed and been awarded compensation because they suffered from PTSD. The families who had to watch there loved ones die on TV, the families who had to look at the pictures of the bodies, the families who were spoken to like dirt and had their dead friends and family members vilified by the police and in the media have had to fight tooth and nail squeeze out the truth. They had to hack away at a wall of lying conspirators for 27 years.
They suffered the stress of watching their loved ones die on TV- They should be compensated. They were lied to by the police -they should be compensated. They were treated like scum -they should be compensated. Their deceased loved ones were accused of being drunk hooligans -they should be compensated.
In fact everyone in that pen who was wrongly accused of causing those deaths should be compensated. I bet their stress and flash backs are more harrowing and intense than the police officers. Those accused of robbing the dead and urinating on their bodies should be compensated.
When you think of how much the police’s defence of this has cost us along with the officer’s compensation and ‘keep your mouth shut’ golden handshakes it makes me sick. Yes this has already cost us a lot but that is hardly the fault of the Hillsborough victims, their friends, families and fellow fans so they should be compensated.
If I wrote an article accusing someone of causing the death of another and then urinating and stealing from their dead body I would be sued to kingdom come and back!

Update: Tort for PTSD claims is very strict for witnesses, from what I remember ie it entails proximity tests, distance from the accident. ie what did they see, how far away were they from it, what was their relationship to the person suffering, was it son, daughter, cousin, or best friend etc. I personally think the tests are crock of poo it comes down to the fact it costs too much money to pay out all those fans.

Tort is crude, crass system. In short, it's far cheaper for PTSD claims for the coppers than for all the Liverpool fans. The coppers were in employment, ergo they likely had good unions to fight for them. What did the Liverpool fans have, a wing and a prayer is all they had. Tort = jobs for the boys. Psych experts paid; all lawyers paid; judges paid. Liverpool fans....£1500 if that.

In the early 90s there were about 15 tort cases against Hillsborough Police Chief et al but they apparently failed. The statute of limitation ordinarily bar claims (after 3 years for personal injury) given the length of time. However, for personal injury said statute permits extensions in certain circumstances. As the police lied the scandal will probably mean those cases 'could' be reinstated, not just the for the 15 but potentially any fan who was injured or who witnessed suffering and was affected by trauma. It's the causation link which poses the problem, ie 27 years have passed and so many persons could have been affected by many different things. The other problem the cases are so stale, the police's lawyers will argue, that there is no public interest in suing the police now who already suffer resources through the Tory's massive public cuts. The Hillsborough justice group said they only want an unlawful verdict made and so they got one, they also said they want Liverpool fans to be exonerated from all or any allegations of blame and so too they got that. Will this be enough or will the courts be overwhelmed by ambulance chasing lawyers?
