  • Freebies????? WEBSENSE

    WEBSENSE 101 LIMITED

Some may recall that a company was offering expensive face creams free to anyone who applied via the web. You were required to only pay via credit or debit card for PP amounting to about £4.00.
However after sampling the 'free' item if you didn't cancel within a very short time you were deemed to have entered into a binding contract requiring you to make a substantial monthly payment of about £30 or more you received further items but they were no longer cheap.
Many consumers complained that the 1st 'free' item ordered would often arrive AFTER the deadline to cancel the contract
They appeared to be UK based because they had a UK email address and operating out of Harley St. London. I investigated and found they weren't in the UK but in the States. The company Websense operates out of Harley Street where they have over 4,000 companies on their books. They claim to provide security for companies against DOS and other types of attack. In reality they are, either unwittingly, or with full knowledge providing a barrier allowing companies to hide behind their electronic wall. Getting a proper address from WEBSENSE was a hopeless task so after more research I discovered their American address. I then contacted the Better Business Burea (their TS but much more effective and pro-active). The BBB tried to make contact but the company didn't respond. When advised I did some more checking and discovered they had moved their operations to Canada.

However there is some good news in that the company WEBSENSE which provided their UK credentials has recently been Gazetted for the 1st time with a view to being struck off

    Ain't life grand
