  • Simon Read: 全o the best things in life are free? That might not be the case with ban

The debate about free banking goes on. Several senior bankers have suggested to me that it’s only a matter of time before the high-street banks have to start charging for current accounts to cover the costs of what are often loss-leading products. By that they mean that with some accounts paying interest and not charging […]

errrmm so the money they earn from DD and transactions don't make a profit on the average account.

I cant see direct charges coming in, maybe conditional, like its free if your main DDs go out of the account and its in credit and wages are paid in, and not free if your account takes managing. Lots of accounts are like that anyhow,

Sounds like The Independent on Sunday needed to fill a space in their paper with an article and hashed out the old "free banking" article that comes in every year for almost an eternity.

I have just spent a few minutes of my life reading it and then commenting on it and I just cannot get it back........ffs!

This was doing the rounds in news stories a week or 2 ago in response to this

The Independent are just slow at getting a story out it seems.

Bit of a non story, as seems from comments I heard on the radio that a lot of bankers want free banking to stay and many believe it will.
