Garry Newlove Murder: Three Teenagers Sentenced |Sky News|UK News
Teenager Adam Swellings has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 17 years for the murder of father-of-three Garry Newlove.
Mr Newlove was kicked to death in a street attack outside his Warrington home after he went to confront a gang about vandalism.
The father-of-three died at Warrington Hospital two days later.
Adam Swellings, 19, Stephen Sorton, 17, and ****** Cunliffe, 16, were found guilty on January 16 of the murder.
After the verdicts, it emerged Swellings had been released from custody for an assault hours before he killed Mr Newlove on August 10 last year.
Swellings, from Crewe, had been bailed on condition he stayed away from Warrington.
However, he never actually left the town.
Instead he met up with fellow gang members Stephen Sorton, 17, of Warrington, and 16-year-old ****** Cunliffe, formerly of Warrington, and started on a drink and drugs binge.
Mr Newlove's widow Helen, 44, has called for more action to tackle the problems caused by underage drinking and anti-social behaviour on the streets.
Describing her husband, she said: "Garry was a caring, loving, funny, and most of all a family man."
She added: "The light has gone out of my life, the jigsaw has been lost forever."
This is the other case that Justice Andrew Smith was dealing with at the same time as the OFT case
