Iacs, I have no doubt that what you have described is truly horrific and I cannot imagine how I would cope with that situation. My heart would break for both parties.
It is unusual for someone to commit suicide when they are with another except of course in cases of assisted suicide or euthanasia. However, the reasons for people taking their own life are as unique as their DNA. I wish I was omnipotent and find solutions to the issues that make people feel they have no other option but I could never and will never condemn or criticize anyone who has committed or considered suicide. Neither would I take the ‘poor you’ approach as most are not pathetic or in need of my sympathy as they are probably far stronger and smarter than I. They are simply flattened by different crises than I due to their individual coping mechanism and circumstances.
I am in favour of euthanasia in particular situations(bracing myself for the barrage!)
