- They provide very attractive photos of themselves. Females may send provocative or pornographic photos. Males may send photos of themselves dressed in military uniform or as wealthy businessmen.
- They will establish constant contact wanting to chat,call or email several times a day
- Use your name very little,using terms of endearment (babe, honey, angel, princess etc.) excessively.
- One way conversations, ignoring your questions or just agreeing with everything you say.
- After a very short period of time they will declare their undying love, offering long term commitment, referring to themselves as your husband/wife, that they feel part of your family and may refer to your children as their own
- They claim to be a US or UK citizen who happens to be travelling in another country or on active duty in the Armed Forces, shortly after making contact with you will have to travel to another country.
- Give excuses why they cannot meet in person or speak on the telephone
- Ask you to send money to them or a third party, usually via Wire or bank transfer, needed for living expenses, a personal or medical crisis, for a visa and flight to visit you, accompanied by excuses as to why you can’t simply send a ticket or arrange the visa yourself.
- Ask you to receive packages or money and forward them on, explaining why they cannot receive them directly. The contents of the packages will be purchased using stolen credit cards and any money received comes from other scam victims, by doing so you are participating in theft or fraud and expose yourself to possible criminal charges.
- Pictures/video of yourself of a sexual nature or sexual acts in front of a webcam may be threatened to send them to your family, friends and work colleagues if you don’t go along with their requests for money.
