Just my perspective on the debate about bankers' pay and bonus arrangements - if someone risks their own money in business to create wealth for themselves then as far as I am concerned they can earn as much as they like - and good luck to them.
If someone works for a company which is owned by others (whether shareholders or privately) and the only risk they are taking is whether or not they get made redundant or fired for incompetence - how can there be any justification for this level of remuneration?
Unless an individual has a skill which is unique or very rare then they can be replaced; the rarer the skill the more difficult and expensive to replace and therefore remuneration usually follows.
But there seem to be hundreds, probably thousands of bankers being paid these sums and this is duplicated all over the world. They are also usually fairly young, so one must question the "rarity" of their skills.
The Chief Execs and Board members must think that they can only justify their own massive payments by employing others on similarly inflated packages ........
