''Some companies are signing up customers for store cards - giving them hundreds of pounds of credit - or putting them in debt - without their knowledge.

The Citizen's Advice Bureau say the problem of "unsolicited credit" is one of the most common issues brought to their offices over the last year.''

I saw the report - its ridiculous as is the fact that they keep putting your credit limit up without asking. Especially when it has happened to me twice recently - just before christmas - what a surprise.

Tempting, yes. But people do have a brain, they should take responsibility for themselves as well. It's a bit like compalining about a programme on the telly, people don't have to watch it, they do have a choice.

And before you all jump on me, I've been there done it, used the credit and paid the price. Speaking from experience here. There are also those who are strong enough to resist in the first place.

At the end of the report Next were quoted as saying they ''promised to change it early next year'' so no surprises there.

I wonder how many people on low incomes will be tempted into doing their Christmas shopping with Next online as a result of the report?
