From The Times.
One of Britain’s biggest rail operators has had to apologise after becoming caught up in a row over a “sexist” tweet.
Virgin Trains East Coast was criticised after attempting to make light of a complaint by a passenger over misogynistic comments by one of its managers.
Emily Lucinda Cole, 27, had tweeted Virgin to complain about a manager on a train from Edinburgh to London. She had been taken aback by the “very abrasive” way he had checked her ticket and told him that she wanted to complain. She was told: “You go ahead, Honey.”
She then tweeted Virgin directly, only to receive a reply that read: “Sorry for the mess up Emily, would you prefer ‘pet’ or ‘love’ next time?” She told the BBC: “Their response was patronising and belittling. Just the behaviour I was complaining about.”
Virgin said: “We apologise unreservedly for this tweet and for the offence caused.”
