  • Dismissed Trust Help

    Hello everyone,

1/ My late mother left a will stating Barclays bank to be her executor and trust however Barclays sold their trust to a terrible company called Zedra neither company had notified my mother that this take over had taken place and no one knew of this takeover had taken place until my mother passed away, should the new company Zedra have informed my mother of the acquisition and asked her to sign a contract or something the reason I ask is that we are sure had she known of the take over she would have changed companies as she only trusted Barclays bank and the co-op who she would have transferred it to .

2/ we asked Zedra to dissolve their trust back in January 2020 they agreed to this but a few days later they claimed that something had come to light and they were going to keep hold of the trust because of this My brother phoned them to ask why and they told him because of data protection they would not tell him, can they do this?.

3/ Zedra wants to charge us around £500.00 for a survey to value the trust property but there are companies who do this for free I discovered and I will have this done having pointed this out to them and said if Zedra wants to have their own survey then they can pay for and also you will have to make an appointment for their surveyor there reply was to charge us £1000 + VAT about 2 weeks later for obstruction as they could not get access even though about 2 weeks earlier I had informed them they would need to make an appointment and also Zedra was going to take us to court to gain access? Can they do this?

Thanking you in advance of your help

    Trevor

    Hi Welcome to LB
Barclays sold its trust business to Zedra in 2016 and customer accounts were transferred to Zedra in 2017
The sale was well publicised in the national press and on the internet and its seems unlikely your late mother failed to receive a letter from Barclays or Zedra at the time

    Please read the article at
    https://bbc-law.co.uk/legal-news/dis...rustee-charges

A professional trustee may charge for their services, but their charge must be reasonable

If you do not consider Zedra are being reasonable, you should write to their complaints department stating details of your grievances

If you are unhappy with their response, you can refer your complaint free of charge to the Pensions Ombudsman
