  • Pension. Will. Estate

As a Will does not cover pensions... Does the deceased pension form part of the estate for tax purposes and inventory and account reasons?

The reason for the question is to know whether if the administration of the pension is taken on by the Executors, are residuary beneficiaries entitled to any information on the pensions, such as, who the deceased nominated to receive death benefits and the amounts?

The death in service benefit in occupational pension schemes is normally provided as, formally, a discretionary payment made directly by the pension scheme to persons nominated by the deceased. This is done specifically to avoid it becoming part of the deceased's estate.

But you would need to consider the specific pension arrangements in each case.
