My late grandmother domiciled in the US up until her death. She had both UK and US assets but only a valid UK will. The US assets have gone through the US courts and are to be distributed to her remaining family, her grandchildren. The sheriff court in the UK has requested an opinion from a US solicitor before they will proceed with issuing grant of confirmation. This is proving to be very difficult as many solicitors will not carry out this work and one who has agreed is requesting large fees to look into succession. Has anyone had any experience of this? Are there ways around this?

The commissary office in Edinburgh has sole responsibility for Confirmations for foreign domiciles and will be well experienced in same.
I assume that there is estate in Scotland and that you need a Grant of Confirmation to administer this estate. Are you being asked for a view that you have administrator/executor authority in respect of the law of the relevant US state?
What documentation was issued in the US?
