  • Executor vs Beneficiary

Can someone advise please that went through the same case.

My partner passed away a month ago. He was alcoholic. We bern together for 17 years.

We lived together. He was very sick the last 10 years on and off with mouth cancer and various health issues. I looked after him singled handed in his hours of sickness! His family never really helped me when he was sick! They sometimes did not even come when I contacted them to help me when he was sick.

He told all his family when He die i will get all his estate which is his life insurance from TFL and his private pension. He has put this in his will and on his documents on his pension and his wishlist from his employer.

Due to the cost of living in london he moved to Birmingham near his family. I could not moved as my work is in london. I visited him once a month.

He was living close to his family and they barely visited him.

    He sadly passed away.

His niece is the executor of the will.

While he was alive he showed me the will and papers that i am the only executor of the estate.

On his funeral his family treated me so badly. Even the priest who did the service ask my friend that went with me to the funeral why i crying so much. My friend told the priest i was the partner of mike. The priest was shocked how the family treated me and said he never witnessed such an evil family.

    My question now is:
None of his family contacted Me! I don’t know what to do! How will i known what’s happening with the will? Will they changed if? Will they honour his will wishes?

He even written a letter to them saying before they take anything i am the one that needs to take anything i want! The family clearer his flat with honouring that letter and instructions mike left

    Hi
9th paragraph - do you mean you are the only beneficiary in his will, not "executor"?
Your partner named his niece as executor in his will, so she is responsible for obtaining Probate, contacting his employer, financial institutions and distributing the deceased's estate to the beneficiary or beneficiaries.
You can check the gov.uk website to find out if probate has been granted. As it is only one month since your partner died it is probably too soon. For a small fee you can register for notification as soon as probate is granted.
Once probate has been granted his will becomes a public document. Again for a small fee you can download a copy of his latest will.
Hopefully he didn't change it after you last saw it and you can put your mind at rest.
