  • Request for files

    Hello,

A few years ago I instructed a Dispute Solicitor to assist me in a will dispute (that is unfortunately still ongoing). After the services of the Solicitor were completed, he mentioned that my file of papers would remain in their archive for a period of 6 years (after which they will be destroyed). As a few years have passed, at this time I would like to ask for all documentation from the file to be sent to me (for safekeeping, as I may need to refer to it or even present it as part of the ongoing dispute).

I would like to ensure that I receive the whole file or as much as I am allowed to see. Is there any specific wording I need to use/ask him to ensure that nothing is missed? Also, is it common to be charged for this service?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Dear Sirs

I would like to collect my complete file (details including reference).

Please let me know a soon as the file is ready for me.

    Yours faithfully

Some firms may charge for retrieving the file from store. See what your client care letter says onthe subject, if anything.

Thanks Atticus for your response. Could you explain what "details including reference" refers to?

who your case was against, the solicitors reference number etc. Stuff to help them identify the correct file.
