  • Intestate

Someone has no will. Never married, no children, brothers or sisters. Parents and grandparents deceased. All aunts and uncles deceased. All cousins deceased. Would the estate pass down to cousins' children or does the line of succession stop at cousins?

    Someone should make a will.
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf

I used the gov.uk online checker who inherits if someone dies without a will.
If all cousins (and all closer relatives) predecease the person who has died intestate, then the cousin's children inherit the estate.

Thank you. That's a very useful checker - I will point him towards it as someone he doesn't want to inherit will. That might get him to sort out his affairs particuarly as he should be thinking about what happens to all the animals he has.
