  • Will

Hi my stepfather passed away many years ago intestate. My mother passed away recently and left me her house which she bought in her name only. My stepfather has 2 children all grown up. Where do I stand with regarding my mother's will, do I have to give anything to step brothers that I never see

You say that your mother left you her house. Do you mean that she left a Will, including this bequest?

Does your mother's will name you and describe you as her "only" child? Is any mention made of her stepchildren?

Stepchildren can challenge a step parent's will under the 1975 Inheritance Act. Your mother should have specifically excluded her stepchildren in her will, otherwise a court may rule that her stepchildren were inadvertently left out of the will
The stepchildren would have to use a solicitor that specialises in this type of case. They have 6 months from the date of probate to make a challenge to the will..
