  • IHT Andalucia/HMRC

    Hello all,
Quick question if I may. If succession tax is well under threshold in Andalucia (1,000,000) and succession tax is therefore Zero, can HMRC then say, seems you haven't paid inheritance tax in Spain we are going to charge IHT on your Spanish property inheritance? Or can they only charge IHT on UK assets?
    Many thanks, Dario

When I asked this question it was a thought, a fear maybe. Now, a month later it appears that HMRC can do exactly that. Does inheriting a parents property in Spain not increase the IHT threshold from £325k to £500k? Anybody know? thanks

Tax is a specialist thing, so you really need guidance from experts in this field -

Echat11, thank you for your reply and the link. It appears somewhere along the line that HMRC have been given the impression the deceased was not Spanish resident which is where I hope the misunderstanding lies.
        Regards, Dario
