  • Death of neighbour. Next of Kin etc?

Elderly neighbour died in hospital. Someone fairly new to the neighbourhood has told the hospital she was NOK but they are not related and he hardly knew her. Do they check? The rest of us don’t know if this is true. We also don’t know if he left a Will or any more details. He had no immediate family just some second cousins I think. We all kept an eye out for him but as he deteriorated this person seemed to take charge of everything. She is going in and out of his properties and who knows what she is up to and what was in there? We are concerned that she may be helping herself to stuff that she is not entitled to. What’s the best way to proceed please?

Have you spoken to the person concerned?
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf

No but I have seen texts she has sent another neighbour saying she is NOK and asking why people are suspicious of her. She is also saying she paid off a debt for him last year but he was the most methodical and businesslike man we knew and can’t believe he would have a debt.
