Hi everyone my late farther withdrew all his money from the banks in 2020 just prior to his death and entrusted it with his son in-law to look after my mother. There was also a insurance policy in my late fathers name payable on death that the son inlaw dealt with. My mother has since passed away neither my farther or mother left a will or any written instructions. I have been told by my bro inlaw a figure that I’m entitled to half with my sister. Now the awkward part is how do I request a full transparent breakdown of what money was left by my parents and what expenses were paid from this money without offending. I Find it strange I have not been furnished with the information without having to ask. We are not talking about large sums just a few thousand, I feel I should see what was left, if it was the other way I’d give a breakdown as and when I was aware. I don’t even know if what has happened is legal.
thanks to anyone who can advise.

This is surely a matter of human relationships and not law. You know the people concerned, and therefore are much better placed than I am to devise a way of asking that will not cause offence.
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf
