Well, it would appear that their letter was a pigs ear. They wanted to know if he had any children, and if so if I could send them a birth certificate. Telling them that he had no dependants or birth certificate, I'm guessing that his pension will now be lost.

Why do you think that? You have not mentioned if he had a wife or any children,, so what was his situation regarding any wife or children?

So what makes you think you will not inherit. Are there any other blood relatives other than you and your brother?

It now transpires that all 3 of us ( brothers) have received the same letter, which probably means they're thinking down that line. They left it so long now, that it is probably subject to inheritance tax.

Inheritance tax only affects estates worth more than £325,000. There are also individual allowances before that so I doubt very much that tax will be an issue. Also Pension funds were always built up in Trust and tax did not come into question.

Have they explained the details as to how that figure was reached. If not , ask them.

Ok, Sam101 ...They did say, if there were any question, to ask them. Just hope they're able to answer that, or it will forever be a mystery.

There should be no reason that they will not answer as it is a perfectly reasonable question which they could have avoided by sending the details in the first place.

Exactly...unlikely that they've embezzled it, but I'm sending the letter now.
