    See what you mean DES8, but it's the ..... "as his private residence". which would seem to cement the settlors intended understanding. Would be interesting to obtain a solicitors interpretation on this?

      This is a life interest trust . Provided it’s not ruled out in the will and there are no events mentioned apart from death that brings the life interest to an end the life tenant can normally take in borders or rent out the property but they are responsible for ensuring the property is maintained and not devalued

      The remainderman ,the person who ultimately gains the property on the death of the life tenant is not responsible for maintaining the property for the life tenant,
