  • Non Descendant / Relative - Administrator Of Estate - California

Looking to get more opinions...I am not a relative of this person and he has absolutely zero family in the united states. He was literally it. we were close friends for 10 years and I basically was his care taker for the last few years of his life and he just recently passed away. There was no will and not sure if he even left a note, So I called a probate attorney and he said he can make me administrator of the estate which will allow me to go inside and search, but he was saying basically I would clean it out and they will sell the condo and his car and they get their fees and I get my fees and the rest of the money gets put into an account for family, or heirs to claim (which there is none) at which point the money goes to the state. See I thought once I was administrator that was it and it was my job to sell the place, keep or sell his car take care of expenses or debt (which there is none.) Basically the whole point of my question is if there is any way possible i can keep any of his property and estate from going to the state?
