A strange one. My grandfather owns a house and garden that contains a shed along with two large outbuildings. This is all on the same, single property / deeds of land ownership etc. His intention is that he will leave the house and land to his daughter, but wishes to leave the income that one of the outbuildings generates to his son. Until now, one of the outbuildings has been used as a workplace by a small firm who paid my grandfather rent each month directly.
Is this possible? Can you leave the house/land to one person and specify that any rent generated from part of that land (the outbuilding) go to another person in a Will? I had assumed the owner of the land/property was the only person entitled to any income it could generate in that situation. How can this be enforced or maintained after my grandfather is dead? Can his son receive rent from property he does not own that belongs to his sister?
