  • Sister's Will

My sister died recently, I'm dealing with her inheritance. After our Father's death a few years back we inherited a sum from his estate. Because she was in a care home I took responsibility for her monies, which I still have. She has a daughter, to whom her money should go. What are the legal safeguards that need be in place? Do I just pass the money to her daughter, and then legally it's her responsibility? Or do I need to do anything. Thanks.

Condolences on the passing of your sister.

Can we assume that her estate is small and doesn't include property or stocks or shares?
    How old is her daughter?

      Thank you.
Just money approx £50000. Her daughter is mid-30s.

On your sister's passing your responsibility for and authority to handle her money ceased.

Presumably there was no will and she died intestate.

It would be her next of kin (sole surviving daughter, or is there a husband in the background?) who has responsibility for applying the intestacy laws and applying for letters of administration if required, so assuming the daughter has capacity, the monies should be passed to her.
Just make sure you get a receipt.
