If executor of deceased is not related should they be consulted on the inscription of a headstone aware there was conflict within the family?

Funerary expenses are paid out of the estate, and to that extent are responsibility of the executor.
The headstone & inscription is not classed as funerary expense, and so nothing to do with the executor.(unless agreed by the beneficiaries)
If I was the executor I would keep well out of the arguments, because you are bound to upset one party or the other.
