  • Beneficiary not declaring money

Tricky one hope you can help . I am executor and beneficiary for my dads estate. My sister needed death certificate to close account after he died .. it's either money my dad jointly invested with her (legal and possible) or dads name was put on account to hide sisters money from tax as she sold a house and did have money to invest or save .
I've asked for certificate back and proof the account was not dads money as if it was it needs to be passed back and divided 3 ways .. I,m just being ignored.. I suspect my other sister knows what the the money is and is keeping quiet. I've no desire to take money away if it was a tax dodge . Just need them to come clean pay tax etc . But if it was dads money ( I'm hoping it isn't as easier ) it should be accounted for or i will get in trouble

can i demandsheshow me reason for death cert needed

    Hi and welcome

    Families!!!!
If the account was in your father's name you will need to declare it for IHT purposes.

As you are the executor I suggest you approach the bank with the will and proof of your identity, together with a copy of the death certificate and ask them for details of the account at the time of your father's passing.

Thank you. I've got his old account and there are no odd withdrawals . Sadly he had investments so if he closed one to pay her I'd never trace it .. my main concern is if she says none of your business do I have any recourse to demand she shows what she needed it for . I've closed his act and opened executor account but let's just say my hunch is that theres money invested dishonestly either tax wise or just not sharing it . I'm walking away from the whole family once this is done but so worried they could say I haven't tried hard enough to locate all money... argh

      families are a nightmare

If she won't tell there's not much to be done down that route (the rack is not used now a days)
All you can do is make diligent enquiries of banks and financial institutions where he might reasonably have had accounts or investments.
