    Scots law! Can I use my nickname as the narrative in my will?

    Can I use my nickname as the narrative in my will? So let's say Jessy instead of Jessica!
    Is there any case law or statues on that? I have checked the Requirement of Writings (S) Act 1995, but couldn't find anything relevant.
    The act only mentions the signature, but I'm meaning the narrative in the will....

      I have another question concerning Scots law... Can a power of attorney (continuing PoA) make an donation of a DVD collection to a charity? Is there any case law/ legislation to back that up?

          Hi JessicaMay,
          I don't know Scottish Law I'm afraid but may have some pointers. If this is your Will then I would suggest at the beginning referring to your full name but including 'also known as' The main issue is how to identify the individual and if it is your estate what name any assets are held in for example bank accounts, property etc.
          If this was someone else's will and they had left a legacy as long as you can show you are the same person referred to in the Will it should be fine. This could be through an address for example or showing a birth certificate and other id showing the alternative name.
          As I say I am not familiar with Scot's Law but just some thoughts.
          I am a qualified solicitor and am happy to try and assist informally, where needed.

            I am afraid I am not a private client lawyer so I dont know the answer to this. The question though is why would you want to do this on a formal document like a will?
