  • Ofcoms advice is rubbish - ignore them and RECORD THE ABUSE to stop the calls !!!

I really am utterly astounded at the absolute rubbish Ofcom are paid to dish out regarding nuisance calls.

you have to record the companies to stop the calls.

    it really is that simple.

I have had calls from EON as well as Bank of Scotland (see Roberts v Bank of Scotland and you will realise the only way to stop these calls is to get PROOF of the calls and PROOF of you telling them you consider the calls to be harassment )

I recorded EON four or five times and made it clear to them that I was recording them.

EON have stopped ringing me and have even written to me to apologise for the calls and to confirm that they have stopped the calls and have removed my number from their records.

Anyone who knows a bit about me will realise that I am not clever or well educated. I don't present myself very well. I struggle greatly with this type of thing... BUT I can stop the calls and pretty easily too.

OFCOM are a waste of time. An absolute embarrassment of a regulator when it comes to dealing with Nuisance calls. you only have to read their "reports" to see it is mainly waffle and the advice they give is clearly not working.

Imagine the extra work Ofcom would get if they DID advise people to get PROOF of the calls.

really - you should at least just try it.

I know from experience that the companies wont release true logs or records of the calls through DATA requests.

I also know that companies design the systems of lgging calls so that they dont present real or accurate call logs to Ofcom.

so Ofcom is probably the last to know about these techniques being used by companies to get away with this type of behaviour.

in my oppinion OFCOM should be renamed NAFCOM

    forgot to say

that definately includes the silent calls.

in fact the silent calls are seen as more serious forms of contact.

you could even use a camera that can date the film and show the number calling you. put you phone onto speakerphone to record the silent call happening.

this will back up your evidence as well as your own call logs, and a data requset, if you can get them

    this is very important.

you could have a camera that you specifically keep by the phone and only use to record the calls

someone needs to stop this abuse from happening and as far as I can see, it is the victim who has to prove the calls are happening, and we, the general public, are the victims.

the burden of proof is on the recipient, so get the evidence.

how many millions of "BT call guardian phones" would it take to stop the epidemic problem of nuisance calls in the UK?

did it stop the calls and and were they punished for causing untold stress and anxiety to millions by making the illegal and unlawful calls?

further, are they free to continue making calls to other people...

like peole with alzheimers, people with diabetes who have swollen legs and feet and find it agony to walk, people with no internet or access to help and advice , technophobes, mobile phone users, people with disabilities, people who work shifts, people getting calls from several companies a day, new mothers who have hardly slept, people who have a tiny bit of charge left in their mobile who really need it to make an urgent call etc etc etc,

I know, the BT thing might be a start, but its not helping the situation for anyone else really and I dont think it is a solution that is going to stop the calls and hold the companies accountable for the stress they cause.

if I bought one, I would feel that I was helping the companies to create kind of "sucker lists" of the people they CAN keep calling and sadly they will be the most vulnerable ones too. the ones who cant speak out and are left to suffer. the ones Ofcom are totally unaware of

the BT call thingy works for the shareholders, i expect. oh and for BT too. they must do a whole lot of business with companies who make these calls in the first place.

All I can say about your last post Solarnewt is that everyone should take steps to help themselves instead of relying 100% on other people...............without technology help these days........no one can stop these calls....except you yourself.
I only advised how to stop them and how I stopped them. Only trying to help

I don't need a call blocker - no one rings me up these days.

the thing that won my case was the undeniable proof of calls as transcripts and recordings which was the burden of proof needed to win

you may have been sent some documents from the case, but as you never got back to me once you had what you wanted, you kind of missed the point of why they were sent. I assume you made good use of them anyway.

I'm pretty much an individual and if I had have relied 100% on other peoples help, the case would never have got to court

all it takes is one court case to make a difference.

it would take forever to make a difference with a call blocker.
