  • BT Phone Charge Choices changed - but how?

On 19 August 2014 I ordered 2 phones from BT for delivery to home, so we could see or block nuisance calls...at stupid hours like before 7am and even very late at night despite having registered with telephone preference service.

For many years, despite a very poor service mostly broadband service from BT in rural cornwall (we won't even go there, but can't change as Openreach can't resolve the issues due to mines int he area and lifting gear restrictions..), we have had unlimited broadband, anytime calls and friends and family/international package as my family live in South Africa...

BT just tried to take £301 from our account for phone calls - WOW! - on investigating the account I discovered our international tariff had gone from 2p a minute to 80p - apparently I made this change online on the same day I ordered the phones...

With my whole family I SA why would I do this, I definitely did not! I also apparently got rid of anytime calls...I work from home - why would I do this?

I have checked my emails and have no emails regarding this changed - just the phone order...BT tell me I definitely did this!
And I can't evidence I did or didn't - besides having no email confirming that order...

BT say I did it - why would I? It is madness and I can't prove I didn't do it, which appears to be the situation at present!

I didn't notice for 2 quarterly bills because we were in credit initially, so DD wasn't for much and at this time was also dealing with my mother in laws mental health problems following a double stroke that was initially undetected and family was in crisis managing her without NHS support, also while trying to get to SA after South Africa lost passports in Pretoria, where my Aunt diagnosed with terminal cancer - otherwise I would probably have picked up sooner...

      Re: Phone Bill

So all you ordered, as far as you were concerned, were two phones with caller display.

These phones may have been linked to a new caller display type package - did you get any other emails confirming the order for the phones which mentions any changes to your package at all?

You will likely need to put in a formal complaint.

Re: BT Phone Charge Choices changed - but how?

Today BT cut me off despite me offering to pay what i should rightly have paid hd they not changed my settings. They have also not yet sent me proof of my making the error, and have not provided me with any address other than postal to forward my electronic screenshots too...DISGUSTED - especially as have always paid bills even when no Broadband on and off for 3 years until they replaced wires in region near our house - some of which were so old the came away in engineers hands...at that time they also kept telling me it was my fault. Really disgusted!

Re: BT Phone Charge Choices changed - but how?

Hello Yes Katie. As they did not - actually would not provide an email address, I posted them copies of the screen shots and a letter with similar info to this posting. I have also today emailed the top executives at BT. I am sick and tired of being fobbed off by BT - they treat customers as stupid. I will be pursuing this with a FOI request - as we have had such poor service in 2012/2013 throughout which I paid even when no service - this kept happening with them telling me it was my appliance, inside our house etc till cables outside came away pulverised in engineers hands...hence why this even more appalling. I have wasted days last time dealing with them.

I will use this contact info too thanks.
