  • Harrassment from water plus

WaterPlus sent myself letters and texts in 2019 saying that i owe thousands of pounds for a unpaid water bill that I did not owe, apparently dating back from 2008. I wrote to WaterPlus in 2019 and explained that I did not owe the bill and that I would go ahead and take Legal Action if they continued to harass myself. The letter that I sent to them in 2019 appeared to have worked but however, this past month I have just started to receive texts from Water Plus again asking for money for a water bill, again i know that I do not owe. Today they text me again saying that I had to pay them today, otherwise they may stop my water supply or take Legal action against me! This is terrible, this is upsetting me and causing myself unnecessary stress. Please can someone advise me what steps i can take, how I do to take Legal Action against this fraudulent accusation from Water Plus. Any advise would be extremely welcomed.

Are you a business customer of the water utility or a domestic customer?

Hi, the premises was a leasehold rented shop. We held the lease from October 2007 - May 2008. We sold the business with assignment of lease to our purchaser in May 2008. We made sure that we paid all our water bills in full for the period October 2007 - May 2008 to United Utilities. In October 2019 Water plus wrote and sent texts to me for unpaid water bills for a period after May 2008. I wrote to Waterplus explaining that we were not at the premises for the period that the unpaid bill stated, i told WaterPlus the name of the person who took over the lease and that he was still there in 2019. I also told them i would take legal action against them if they carried on threatening legal action against me for this bill that i did not owe. I also wrote in my letter to Waterplus that the bill in question was over 6 years old. Waterplus went away in 2019 until this month. I have received 3 texts from them saying that i owe an unpaid bill along with a threating text [ which i received today] saying that WaterPlus may stop my water supply or take Legal action against me if i do not pay the unpaid bill to them today? Thank you for your help.

        Hi Silvernet,

This sounds like harassment to me. Write to the CEO of Waterplus and make it clear to them that the behaviour of their company and its officers, employees, servants and agents amounts to harassment within the meaning of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 and that if they do not cease and desist immediately, you will take steps to seek an injunction from the court to restrain them from making any further demands and threats. Also, make it clear to them that if they do attempt to bring a claim for money you do not owe them, you will ask the court to strike out their claim as an abuse of the legal process.
