  • United utilities tell me im now responsible for paying water bill for bedsits.

I been living in bedsit for over 5 years. The first 4 1/2 years were under an old landlord and the rent included water rates as i share bathroom with 3 other bedsits. A new landlord took over about 6 months ago and i was told in writing that nothing had changed, so water rates still included in rent. Im now recieving letters from water company saying im responsible for the water rates for all the badsits. Ive not recived anything from landlord about a change in contract to say im responsible for my water rates, or a reduced rent so i can pay my water rates seperate.

How do i approach this as the water company have given me 14 days to reply before they start billing me for all the bedsits?

I will also add that I dont even have a water meter so ive no idea how they will find out how much i use in my bedsit.

One more thing, the letters are addressed to my name but not my bedsit number, they are addressed to 'the bedsits' as if i rent them all.

So write to the water utility telling them your share of the water rates is included in your tenancy agreement, and that the landlord is the liable party.
Give them the new landlord's name and address
