  • Sold debt to collections when not even at property

    Hi all,

My wife has received a letter from Eon to say that they have sold a debt to PRAC Financial Ltd.

Several things don't seem right about this.
    1. Our bills were never in her name only mine.
    2. The dates that they have stated are after we moved out and new tenants moved in.
    3. We had our mail redirected when we moved out and never received any previous correspondence.

Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated

I have contacted Eon but they have said that it is sold and now nothing to do with them.

The accompanying letter from the collections agency says that we qualify for a 75% reduction and we can pay it off in installments.

Can they really get away with making up a debt when we weren't at the property and pass it open?

I would guess no they cannot, I would copy a date you left with any proof you have and post that to the Nice people (RATS) who are now hounding you. And again keep proof of posting.

Presumably you told Eon when you moved, and gave them a final reading and kept proof of doing so.

Your wife (not you) should write to Prac and tell them she does not recognise the debt.
If they insist she does she then requests they provide proof,
If they then continue she then makes a formal complaint

I would ask your wife to send EON a SAR, they have 30 days to provide all the data on the account.
Make sure you get Proof of Postage. Knowing what's happened and when the 'cross over' happened is the key here. The information you should show the 'cross over'. There is a lot you can do, lodge a complaint with EON, they need to bring the account back in house to sort it out, complain to the ICO and complain to the Services Ombudsman.
