Last July I was visited by a British gas engineer, he was here to change our meter to a digital meter. I have read of the problems others have had, where the supply company is not informed of the change and hugh bills and threats start to drop through the letterbox. So since the installation of the meter, each time a meter reading was done, I told the reader to be sure that EDF know it is a digital meter. Saturday I got a letter asking that I pay £280 of shortfall on my gas bill and increase my monthly direct debit from £48 to £120. I first had a rant, knowing it was wrong, then I called EDF up to inform them of the change of meter. They had never been informed and would alter things at their end and issue an ammended bill. All I can say is 'if your bill seems very high, check that the supply company know what meter you are on'.
Best bit of the phone call was the chap on the other end informing me that they only employ idiots in the meter reading department and they get hundreds of calls every day about this same mistake.
