I moved into my current address last October.* In December I received a letter addressed to "The Occupier" demanding payment electricity supplied before I moved in.* I believe the company was one used by the previous occupant.* The statement shows a beginning meter reading that is less than the reading I took with the previous occupant when he moved out about 4 week prior.* The end reading stated matches the reading we took and which I checked again and confirmed when I moved in.
I informed the supplier of these facts but they are now saying I automatically became their customer via a deemed contract when I moved in.* I thought a contract was an agreement entered into voluntarily, not forced unilaterally on one party by another.* It seems like bullying tactics by a big company but is there any legal basis for their claim?
