Had a couple of similar ones where legitimate business contact details have been used to try to get you to open an attachment that no doubt is a trojan/virus etc.

Tomorrow I'm expecting a telephone call from the genuine firm's boss. Q how would/could he determine when his email address has been used? Any useful advice I can offer? Apart that is from advising him to LB which I will do

Re: Another Scam on another website

Really depends on where the email came from.

If it originated from their company or actual email account it could indicate it has been hacked or they have some malware/trojan/nasty on their systems.

What if often more likely is that it's not come from them at all, but has simply had the "from" email address etc spoofed. Very very easy for spammers/scammers to do. The few I've seen like this, that was what had happened, and looking at the email headers you could see that the email had never gone near or come from the company it claimed to be from.

Are you on their email lists or a customer?

If it is really from their systems or email, then they obviously need to sort that, and maybe warn people on their customer/email lists.

If it's just some random spammer spoofing their company as a sender, then not really a lot you can do, though if they get more than a few reports from people they again might like to warn anyone on their email lists, just in case they by chance get a random hit from one.
