You only need a compatible PC or laptop and the necessary cables. Alternatively, a laptop repair shop - just be sure to tell them you want data transfer as opposed to data recovery.

Would this bit of kit do the job?

Re: The Join-In IT Query Thead

Looks as if it would do the job, but it's a tad expensive.

I just bought one of these for my SATA HDD Startech 18in Right Angle SATA Cable M/M - Misco.co.uk (there is a thread on here somewhere about it) and latterly for another drive (IDE) that I needed to attach for a different reason I robbed a ribbon cable out of A N Other desktop and attached it to the motherboard.

Re: The Join-In IT Query Thead

Ok, have got the 2.5 HDD external box and am currently going through the HDD from the old machine. There are some pictures on there that I am not sure who put on there, lol!! I still cannot find the pictures so is there absolutely anyway of knowing how to find them or could they simply be lost for good?

              You have lost me now.

You have managed to connect the old HDD without the cable you were going to buy?

Cool, so the HDD works then, result.

Did you hide your photos in a 'special place'...?

Just do a search for .jpg
Or look in the folder marked Pr0n

Curly---just starting to "share resources"--Lynsys "NetMagic" keeps interfering---do i want to use this (buy presumably as 3 days trial left)

Also---if I share resources & later create other users for "Turbo's Kitchen Internet Café" (which I will detail reqts to you later) - are these "shared resources" in the other Users Profiles---cos I wouldn't want em to be ?

I haven't used Netmagic and, TBH, you don't actually need it.

Sharing can be changed as required and even controlled via user accounts.

That free 2010 Office Starter edition they putting on PC's now not very good at Excel--the I/E spreadsheet (complex one) on here has macros--& it dont like Macros

Plus--it won't let me alter some descriptive fields cos it wont let me use "Unprotect Workbook"---no bother for me-thought I'd just publize it

Going to load 2010 full on Laptop---leave 2007 on desktop

Before you ask--2010 is Professional edition & legal & bought for £10
