Get into the wireless settings and set up the encryption. and SSID (The name you want to use, change it from the default one.)
    WPA in pref over WEP.
Then add a password, your mobile number without the leading zero works a treat
    Grrrrrrrrrr---internet page not available again

    All work/Settings now on laptop???

Have we finished with settings on desktop?

As you can access the internet with the wired connection then all is done.

Wirelessly you need to put all the settings in, save and some times power cycle.

Turn OFF the encryption and see if you get a solid connection there.
          Then slowly add things.

WiFi can be a PITA but once setup works a treat.

now that doesn't sound good at all.
Check the laptops firewall settings as they may well be set to block all connections.
              Set it to home use.

              Just search Windows Firewall.

What I'm going to next Curly is attemt to get a simple independent network connection with laptop using old non wireless router so we have less variables to worry about + I only have the phone line to change when i talk with you here-as opposed to Power source & LAN Cable changeovers

Says McFee is managing the firewall

                      Can't find "home use setting"

                      I've got a screen with 4 tabs Domain Profile,Private Profile,Public Profile,IPsec Settings

Firewall state-Inbound Connections is set at "Block (default) on first 3 Tabs

Is this the thing to change?

                          changed all those-to no avail

decided to Restore to factory settings on Laptop+ easy peasy setup!!!

                          WeeeeeeeeeeeeeHeeeeeeeeeeeeey

This the inaugaral post from laptop connected via wireless !!!!!

Got LB still on on desktop---so they dont clash then ???

                          Right-I did not activate McFee

If it falls over again---it must be due to Auotomatic Window Updates changing something I suspect --- you agree Curly/Jester?

Re: The Join-In IT Query Thead

Here's one but I suspect the advice will be to take it to someone to fix.
I have an old laptop which unfortunately for me I dropped on the floor while charging it. As an aside, it took me about 4/5 years to get the bit that had broken off out of the laptop(various attempt). The bit broken is the bit that is used to plug to charge the battery.
Should I risk soldering the bit on and probably setting fire to my house or take it to someone to fix?
If I take it to them to fix, should I mention that it has a trojan horse on it to begin with?
How much do you think it would cost to fix, last time I asked they quoted me an amount of about £200.00, would that be the same now?
"Family means that no one gets forgotten or left behind"
                                (quote from David Ogden Stiers)
