'There was no way I was going to pay for a service I never used': Passport profiteer Richard Howard threatened customers with court action - but you can WIN

By Jeff Prestridge, Financial Mail on Sunday
                Published: 22:01, 9 May 2015 | Updated: 22:01, 9 May 2015

A number of people who refused to be intimidated by passport profiteer Richard Howard into paying for services they did not receive or request have just won important cases in the county courts.
Their victories over the past 12 days gives hope to hundreds of people who are in receipt of threatening county court claims issued by Howard for alleged non-payment of bills totalling hundreds of pounds.
Howard’s loss in the courts represent a triumph for The Mail on Sunday, which earlier this year exposed his dubious business practices and confronted him at his London offices. It is also a feather in the cap for consumer law forum LegalBeagles, which has assisted a number of people in defending Howard’s claims in the courts.

                +4

Victory! Neil and Cheryl Vaughan, from Tonypandy, south Wales, won their court case

Sharon Coleman, co-founder of LegalBeagles, says: ‘In the eight years that LegalBeagles has been running, we have not come across a rogue trader that operates with such brazen disregard for the law and the court process than Richard Howard.
‘He has relied on bullying, harassment and the abuse of the court system to intimidate people into paying for services they either didn’t want or receive. The recent court victories should give hope to the hundreds of people out there who still have a court claim from Howard hanging over them. Rather than be intimidated into paying his claim, they should defend it robustly in the expectation they will win.’

"a triumph for the mail on Sunday and a feather in the cap for LB"? I would have reversed those. Bloody daily mail. 😊

No need, you're perfectly entitled to your opinion.

By the way, to all the LB team, do you ever stop working? It's barely 8am on Sunday morning. Your dedication is incredible!

I'm afraid I agree with Alex's comment above. Well done Jeff Prestridge for exposing RH's scandalous behaviour to a wider audience, and for putting the pressure on him...but that's ALL you did.

To claim a 'victory' for the Daily Mail and a 'feather in the cap' for LB...that's completely wrong. It is the bravery of the victims of BPS and RH, like Alex, and you fine folk at LB, that have driven this fightback and helped so many to stand up to the scumbag.

For Mr Prestridge to try and take the credit chiefly for him and his rag is most ignoble and untruthful, and in my eyes is a slight on his journalistic integrity. Credit where credit's due!
