  • Tariff for injuries?

    Good morning

I am about to begin a personal injury claim for an accident that led to my quadriceps tendon being ruptured and requiring a 90 minute operation to reattach it to my knee. The injury was very oainful, and the recovery long. I cannot put weight on the leg for at least 6 weeks, walk without a zimmer frame so cannot leave home, and am told the recovery will take months, and that I may not recover full function.

My question is this. I have no idea how much to claim for for the injury. Expenses etc are straightforward enough, but do courts work to a rough tariff in deciding these these things? Any suggestions where I can get information about decisions that might shed light on this?

I'd be really grateful for any advice about this.

    Thanks.

The Judicial College publishes guidelines for the assessment of general damages in personal injury cases. These guidelines are applied by courts in personal injury cases. The 17th edition was published in March 2024.

I cannot see that it is available free online. You can purchase a copy from legal booksellers or as an ebook (https://www.wildy.com/isbn/978019890...ook-oup-oxford), or maybe a good reference library will have a copy.
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf
