VT payment

some help please

i will be going through the process of VT this month.

the question i have is, if the direct debit goes out the bank on the 1st of the month. and i start the VT process the week before. will i have to pay the next payment?

or how early before the 1st would you recommend to start the VT?

i am trying to time it as good as possible so we are not left without a car.
