VT- told not possible as agreement ended

Hi,
Wonder if anyone can help. My boyfriend sent a Voluntary termination letter to the Ford finance company and they called back saying his agreement ended in December so they can't accept this letter and he needs to go to the dealership. However when he went to the dealer they said he'd have to pay over £700 for excess mileage etc etc. If he's not in an agreement is he still in a contract to pay the rest of the finance?! He's already paid over half the amount owed and they're now confusing him by saying they can't accept his VT!!! He's sent another letter to them but wondered if anyone has any advice or links to help unravel it!

Just need to pick apart a few things before working out what options and steps you can take next.

Has your boyfriend been up to date at all times under the agreement, has he missed any payments?

Have Ford Credit sent your boyfriend a letter at any point indicating that the agreement has been terminated?

What was the reason Ford Credit told your boyfriend he needed to go to the dealership, if the contracted parties to the agreement is between your boyfriend and Ford Credit?
