  • Voluntary termination. Car service due.

Hi, I have recently been made redundant and am 6 months pregnant. I can no longer afford to pay for my 2 year old car which is on PCP with GMAC. I have contacted them and told them I want to voluntarily terminate. They sent me a pack which I'm refusing to sign. I will be sending them a letter via recorded delivery within the next few days.

The thing is my car us due a service on 4th April and the tax and insurance will need to be renewed in April too. So I am hoping to have all of this sorted before then. I am working my redundancy notice up until 24th March and my job requires access to a car! I'm then out of the country from 25th to 29th March. So this only leaves me 30th and 31st to get the car inspected and sent to Auction... So my question is: should I get the car serviced? To be honest I really can't afford it but I'm worried if I don't it will cause me problems with GMAC and might cost me more money in the long run.

If I hand the car back by 31st March am I obliged to get the car serviced? Surely my service history is up to date until 3rd April.

Thanks in advance for any advice

You're best to get the car serviced as you'll be required to have the service record stamped up to date to prove the car has been looked after.

It's worth noting that you don't have to take it to a dealership to get the car serviced and the service book stamped. You need to take it to a VAT registered garage who will service the car and stamp the book. This is the cheaper way to do it.
