Hello everyone,
First, I would like to thank you for creating and supporting this forum, it's a wealth of resources that everyone should be aware of!
I'm finding myself in what seems to be an upcoming problem, in Jul/Aug 2013 I bought a VW on finance soon after getting my driving licence without doing any kind of research (my fault, I know) and ended up without any idea of what I should/could do when problems showed up, and as it happened I went through quite a few major problems with my car including trying to reject the car (but failed as the FO adjudicator basically said the problem is fixed as far as he was concerned, found myself stuck and didn't know what to do next and left it where it was and accepted the outcome and I am now having to deal with the issue and suck it up)
With that gone now I would like to VT the car as soon as I'm going to reach the 50% mark (2.5 months time), all good until now except that 3 months after I bought the car I moved house and with that came quite a few more miles on the clock than previously anticipated.
Reading about voluntary termination, which I discovered while having problems with the car a few months back, I understand now what the excess mileage is for and how it's going to affect me.
The problem I have is that, way back when I moved house I immediately contact sales guy from VW (what turned out to be the dealership where I bought the car from) to let him know that has happened and ask if there was anything I had to do or change. He suggested updating DVLA for my driving licence and V5 as well as informing the insurance company, he also informed that they have updated their system as well. As the contract mileage never came up I had no idea until recently that I was actually supposed to ring VWFS and let them know that I might do quite a significant amount of miles over the allowance.
I'm really wondering whether I should stick to it and return the car and then dispute the excess mileage, or whether I should call VWFS now and explain the situation, not sure what to do, I would be happy to pay anything in excess if that is the case but it would be quite hard to do it in a lump sum for me as the charges will amount to about £1700 from what I can tell. (9000 per annum allowance, 24 months in the agreement and I've done about 47k already, I anticipate I'll clock around 50k by the time I return the car, excess mileage is charged at 5p according to the contract)
Hope that is detailed enough and makes sense, would appreciate any suggestions as to what options I might have,
Regards,
J
