  • car insurance threat to cancell

    hi,
I insured a motorcycle a week ago and paid £600.00 in full for the year,i received a phone call saying 2 years previous that an insurance on a different motorcycle (with the same insurance company ) was automatically renewed and that I owed £280.00 ,this was sorted out over a year ago as I had cancelled It, and was told nothing more would be heard about it which is what happened until now
..now they have told me they will cancel my policy on the 24th march and take out the previous money from the new policy and refund me £200.00.
I have made numerous phone calls to no avail.
I said could i cancel this new policy under the 14 day cooling period. and was told they will still take the money from the £600.00
    can anyone help,thankyou

    Make no more phone calls.
Only deal with them in writing.
Write immediately (signed for) [with copy to their CEO] to their complaints department, and insist they maintain your existing cover until the dispute is sorted.
Also ask them what right they have to offset an alleged disputed debt with monies paid for a new product.
I'm pretty sure they can't do that, but I can't find the relevant links at the moment, so am probably wrong.
