Does anyone know if when you buy a used car without a warranty, does it have an implied or unwritten warranty of 1 month (lady at repair garage thought there might be).
My son bought a car from used car dealer, 52 plate for £2550 on 6/9/13 without a warranty with a new MOT from 1/8/13 with no advisories.
On Tues 24/9/13 oil indicator light came on, so he put oil in, yesterday it broke down and had to be towed to repair garage by RAC. Today he was told it needs a new clutch £338.70.
I checked MOT history link and it failed its July MOT, one of the advisories was that it had a severe oil leak. I spoke to car dealer today who agreed they got the car with a failed MOT and put it through local garage for the new MOT. He said a clutch can go at any time due to normal wear and tear. I told him Trading Standards have informed me of my rights under SOGA and asked if he was prepared to repair it or pay for the repair, after some lengthly discussion he offered £150 towards repair.
My son has decided to let garage do the repair and also run it through a MOT, just in case there are any other hidden issues. He was made redundant in April and has just started working again, so needs the car to keep his job.
My son has decided to get repair done at garage as it may take some time to
