  • Voluntary termination - estimated costs and handover

    Hello,

I have a car on Hire Purchase financed with Tesla Finance and have started the process to return the car under Voluntary Termination. They've been incredibly slow to respond to my initial email that I wanted to invoke my right to Voluntary Termination (using the template letters). I've paid £100 over the 50% due.

I have complete a remote DEKRA inspection (taking various pictures as required) which has highlighted some damage beyond 'fair wear and tear'. They've given an 'estimated' cost of £580 + VAT in the DEKRA report.

And they have asked where and when I'd like to return the car, as well as asking for a copy of page 3 from the V5.

    My questions:

I presume that once they've taken possession of the car (dropped off at their Tesla Service Centres) that I can cancel the direct debit for the Hire Purchase? Or will they have to complete these repair before I can cancel the Direct Debit?

Also, there is still some uncertainty over the cost of repairs - DEKRA are meant to be an independant third party (but haven't physically seen the car), and yet Tesla will issue an invoice once they've physically seen the car. I presume I should take a lot of photos and dispute any futher charges beyond the £580+VAT.

    Hi
    Welcome to LB
You should be able to cancel the direct debit when Tesla have possession of the car, but do check your finance agreement

You may have to dispute refurbishment charges with Tesla
Please read "Dealing with end of contract charges: Vehicle refurbishment charges" in the document "A Guide to Voluntary Termination" under the heading SHORTCUTS on the right of this page
